Active Contours for Measuring Arterial Wall Diameter of Astronauts from Ultrasound Images

چکیده
The non-invasive assessment of cardiovascular changes with spaceflight often involves the measurement of blood vessel dimension using ultrasound imaging. However, many commonly used measurement techniques are often manually intensive and dependent on the individual making the measurements. We propose a new automated method for measuring the vessel dimensions which involves creating a smoothed edge map of the image and using active contours to converge to the upper and lower vessel boundaries. Preliminary results show that we are able to use this method to detect vessels walls for vascular measurements from ultrasound images.

Presentation of a Non-invasive Method of Estimating Arterial Stiffness by Modeling Blood Flow and Arterial Wall Based on the Determination of Elastic Module of Arterial Wall
Introduction: Arterial stiffness is an important predictor of cardiovascular risk. Several indices have been introduced to estimate the arterial stiffness based on the changes in the brachial blood pressure. Since the substitution of the blood pressure changes in the central arteries such as carotid with the blood pressure changes in the brachial results in error in the blood...

Background & Objective : Several indices have been introduced to estimate arterial stiffness that based on changes in brachial blood pressure. But because of the error resulted by the substitution of brachial blood pressure instead of the other central arteries, such as carotid, it will be very important to present elastic parameter based on the mechanical models without any emphasis on brach...

Introduction: This study presents a computerized analyzing method for detection of instantaneous changes of far and near walls of the common carotid artery in sequential ultrasound images by applying the maximum gradient algorithm. Maximum gradient was modified and some characteristics were added from the dynamic programming algorithm for our applications. Methods: The algorithm was evaluat...
متن کاملTo Estimate the Axial Elastic Modulus of Eye and Posterior Wall Thickness in Healthy Human Eye by Ultrasound Images and their Relation with Age and Gender
Introduction: Based on the invasive studies it has been shown that factors such as age, the progress of eye disorders, lens fibers compression and the biochemical changes of ocular matrix alter the physical characteristics and elastic properties of eye. In this study, a noninvasive method of estimating human eye elasticityis proposed and its relation with age and gender is evaluated using ultra...
متن کاملShape-driven Segmentation of Intravascular Ultrasound Images
Segmentation of arterial wall boundaries from intravascular images is an important problem for many applications in study of plaque characteristics, mechanical properties of the arterial wall, its 3D reconstruction, and its measurements such as lumen size, lumen radius, and wall radius. We present a shape-driven approach to segmentation of the arterial wall from intravascular ultrasound images ...
